REGION: Loire Valley
APPELLATION: Saumur Champigny
VARIETY: Cabernet Franc
SOIL: Les Poyeux is a 2.9 hectare plot on the estate's sandiest soils.
AGE OF VINES: The vines are 40 to 70 years old.
WINEMAKING: Grapes are destemmed then macerate for five weeks with submerged cap and pump-overs before continuing fermentation and aging in barrel with no additions of S02 until bottling. The wine typically sees a 18-24 month élevage in barrels. The barrels used are made by a tonnelier who only produces 250 barrels a year. Rougeard buys 50 of those each year to produce Le Bourg. Les Poyeux is vinified in the barrels that served as new oak for Le Bourg the vintage prior.
